Rugby choral extravaganza

A chorus of children from four Rugby primary schools will have a unique opportunity to perform at Rugby School’s Temple Speech Rooms next Tuesday at a concert organised by the County Music Service and supported by Rugby Rotary.

One hundred and fifty children from Cawston Grange, Hillmorton, Rokeby and St. Matthew Blowham schools will take to the stage to perform a selection of songs from the musical ‘Oliver’.

The children have all been trained by County Music Service choral specialists Gillian Wormley and Anne Hunter under the Wider Opportunities Programme which delivers free of charge group tuition to all KS2 children in the county.

Gillian said: “The children have been wonderful and have loved working on the songs, as well as finding out about Victorian England and adding their own special touches such as costume ideas for the performance.”

The concert will also feature County Music Service area choirs and the Rugby Community Choir. County Music Service Area Manager Jeremy Dibb is particularly pleased with how much support the service has received in preparing the concert.

He said: “We are delighted to give all these children the chance to sing in such a magnificent setting and with added performances from guest choirs it is set to be a great concert.

“We are grateful for all the support we have received to arrange the event from the participating schools the schools, Rugby Rotary, and Rugby school.”

The concert starts at 7.00 pm and tickets will be available on the door or in advance from CMS office on 01788 575489 at £4 or £2 concessions.
