Leader hangs up her youth club gloves after a decade in charge
“A self-less advocate for young people” is retiring after spending almost a decade in charge of Rugby’s Bradby Club.
Rose Piercey has played an important part in the history of the East Union Street youth club over the past 20 years, supporting her husband in the early nineties before taking up her position as club leader in 2001. On Wednesday 16 June, Rose completed her final shift before taking a well-earned rest.
Remembering the highlights over the years, Rose said: “It’s really difficult to pick the best bits of my career because there are so many good memories such as winning the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award in 2004, getting invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace and taking part in many Canal trips - just everything.
“But ultimately, it’s having the satisfaction that the work we are doing makes a difference to the lives of young people – and that has been what has kept me here for so many years. It’s a wonderful job, with wonderful people and I will miss everyone thoroughly.”
The Bradby Club works in partnership with Warwickshire County Council’s Integrated Youth Support Services (IYSS) to offer young people in Rugby ‘somewhere to go, something to do and someone to listen’.
Hugh Disley, Head of the IYSS, believes Rose’s work with young people will never be forgotten: “Rose is a self-less advocate for young people and we can’t thank her enough for what she has helped the Bradby Club achieve over the years.
“She’s incredibly popular with staff and the young people alike, and is well-respected in the community. I wish her all luck for the future and am sure her legacy will continue at the Bradby Club long after her retirement.”
