Rugby High School is the business for new MP

Rugby MP Mark Pawsey will be visiting Rugby High School tomorrow (July 2) to participate in a business simulation exercise aimed at testing employability skills for young people.

Ninety five Year 9 girls from the school will be participating in a team work challenge, where they will test their decision making abilities and team spirit, along with some healthy competition.

They will then set up in business and have to make some key financial decisions in order to stay in profit. The competition is tough and the exercise is fast and furious, simulating the pace and uncertainly of our current economic climate.

The event is being run by Warwickshire Education Business Partnership (WEBP) who have been preparing young people for adult and working life for many years. Recently published figures show almost a million 16 to 25s are unemployed.

“Never has there been a more significant time to ensure that all young people are equipped with skills, appropriate attitudes and experience they need to meet the economic demands they will face as our future workforce,” says Sheila Hancox, Head of the WEBP.

Companies supporting the event include HSBC, Unipart Technology Logistics, Asda (Rugby store), Rugby Borough Council and the Armed Forces (Army and RAF).

Sheila Hancox added: “Business involvement with schools can be a powerful catalyst to increased academic achievement. It can also enable young people to make better-informed decisions at the key transition points in their education, and help them develop the employability skills needed for the workplace.

"We are delighted that our local MP is taking an interest in skills we are teaching our future workforce.”
