Boughton Leigh off to Sunny Hunny
Children at Boughton Leigh Infant and Nursery School enjoyed a day at the seaside thanks to Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services team.
Extended Services contributed £1400 to the school to enable coach parties to take every pupil, member of staff and some family members to Hunstanton on the East Coast.
As well as a free coach journey, each child was given fish and chips, an ice cream and a bucket and spade to enjoy the famous Victorian resort.
‘Sunny Hunny,’ as Hunstanton is known, is on the east coast of England. It is unique in east coast resorts in that it is west-facing and the only one in which the sun can be seen setting over the sea.
The day trip comes as a welcome boost for the local community which has been hit hard by the recession. For many of the children, this will be the only trip to the seaside they have this year.
Darren Barrow, head teacher of Boughton Leigh, said: “The whole school does a project on the seaside, with each year group looking at different aspects. This gives the children valuable first hand experience. “I asked Blue Class which part they enjoyed the most and the answer was "everything!””
Cllr Heather Timms, portfolio holder for Children, Young People and Families with Warwickshire County Council, said: “The area has suffered greatly from the effects of the recession. This day trip will have given the community a chance to come together and enjoy themselves. It is essential for a community’s cohesion and morale that its children still get chance to play.”
