Atherstone cluster gets streetwise
Atherstone schoolchildren have been celebrating their after school activities at a special cluster celebration.
Pupils from across the Atherstone cluster joined Warwickshire County Council’s extended services team and other partners to showcase their extra-curricular skills.
A wide range of ages were present. Children from Racemeadow Primary School performed a street dance routine that they have been working on with a dance tutor. At the start of the academic year, the children were asked what activities they wanted to do. Street dance was among the favourites.
Arden Hill and Oakfield Schools’ choir, which has been rehearsing after school, treated the audience to a musical interlude and year 11 pupils of Queen Elizabeth School cut short their holiday to perform flips and somersaults from the range of the art of Parkour, or free running as it is known.
Cllr Heather Timms, portfolio holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “The Atherstone extended services cluster demonstrated the breadth of activities available to them after school. I am delighted that so many of the local children are engaging in such positive activities in their own time.”
Cluster co-ordinator for Atherstone, Vicki Hewins added: “What has made this such an exciting year for all the partners who have provided activities is that the children have been doing what they wanted to do and were willing learners. Their enthusiasm has created a really positive vibe around their schools.”

Activities are on offer throughout the summer for local children of all ages and abilities through partners at North Warwickshire Borough Council.
Brochures are available at the borough council offices, through its website or by calling cluster co-ordinator Vicki Hewins on 07973 460128.
