Bedworth young people to have active summer with positive programme
Young people in Bedworth are to have a summer of activities provided for them at a range of venues in the town.
Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services team has been working with all providers of youth services in the area to ensure that activities are on offer through the first three weeks of the summer holidays.
Warwickshire Youth Service will be providing activities in 3 venues across Bedworth : Bedworth Youth Centre, where youth clubs will open for 10-13 year olds as well as 13-19 year olds, Bedworth Heath Leisure and Activity Centre will host similar clubs and organise day trips and Keresley Village Community Centre is hosting a series of youth club days and courses with Job Centre Plus and Connexions.
The range of activities has been supported by the extended services Bedworth cluster budget, which brings together the resources of the early years and children’s centres, primary and secondary schools and colleges in Bedworth.
Along with the activities at the centres there are also two residentials at Marle Hall in Llandudno, in the first week of August for girls and the third week for boys. Young people will be able to take part in outdoor activities such as kayaking, gorge scrambling or high ropes and ziplines.
Cllr Heather Timms, portfolio holder for Children, Young People and Families with Warwickshire County Council said: “The summer can be a difficult time for young people. The idea of having lots of free time away from school can often be less of an idyll for children than they imagine it will be.
“Extended Services has helped to provide a wide range of activities that will keep the young people occupied which can only benefit all the community.
”For some young people, the residentials mean that they have the opportunity to enjoy a different setting and the chance to do different things which they might otherwise not have been able to do.”
Extended Services offers a range of activities for all the family, as well as support with childcare and parenting programmes. For full details log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/extendedservices
