New ‘youth shelter’ for Napton

A youth shelter offering young people somewhere else to go in Napton has been officially opened.

Following a consultation by the Rural Mobile Youth Project, managed by Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service, the 14 to 16-year-olds developed plans for a place to call their own.

They raised their own funding following a presentation to Napton Parish Council and by holding a games night for young members of the community at Napton Youth Club.

The ‘youth shelter’, on Dogs Lane Sports Field, was opened at a special ceremony on Thursday 15 July.

Carla Young, Rural Mobile Youth Worker for the Youth and Community Service, said: “It’s another great example of responding to the needs of young people in the community by talking to them about the services they would like to see in their area.

“They’ve showed real commitment with this project and they’ve seen it through to the end, which is a fantastic achievement.”
