Warwickshire gets set to love parks

People of Warwickshire are showing how much they love their local parks by getting out and celebrating national Love Parks Week, which takes place between Saturday 24 July and Sunday 1 August.

Warwickshire County Council is celebrating Love Parks Week with a whole host of events over the week at its Country Parks.

Love Parks Week is organised by parks charity GreenSpace to raise awareness of the importance of parks, and this year the focus will be on encouraging people to get into parks to join the campaign for continued investment and support for these valuable community assets.

Last year, around 600 park events took place to celebrate Love Parks Week, attracting over 400,000 people. This year looks set to be even bigger, with even more fun and exciting events taking place across the country.

Paula Cheesman, Warwickshire County Council’s Country Parks Visitor Manager, said: “Our parks provide a vital link to the countryside for many people living in increasingly urban environments. In addition they provide a great value day out for all the family to enjoy at very little cost.”

Paul Bramhill, Chief Executive of GreenSpace, said: “Love Parks Week provides a great opportunity to get outdoors and explore all that our local parks and green spaces have to offer. In the current financial climate parks are more important than ever – they are free to visit and provide opportunities to improve health, relax and unwind, enjoy nature, play and have fun.
“With most local authorities facing budget cuts, now is the time for us to ensure parks continue to receive support and investment so that everyone can enjoy the benefits for years to come.

"This year we want as many people as possible to show support for the campaign by attending an event and taking advantage of what these fantastic places have to offer.”
