Civic Trust Awards 2011
Warwickshire County Council and the Civic Trust are inviting submissions for the 2011 Civic Trust Awards.
The county actively promotes good design and is involved in the judging and co-ordination of all applications within Warwickshire.
The awards recognise the best in the built environment, from architecture to planning, townscape to infrastructure. They promote the concept that development should be for the benefit of people – those who use it, and those who just pass by.
The 2010 Civic Trust Awards received 15 entries from the West Midlands. Barford Village Shop in Warwickshire, designed by Indigo Brain Architecture, received Civic Trust Awards National Panel Special Recognition. This was given as the project demonstrated strong community initiative and had a positive impact on the people they serve.
The panel described Barford Village Shop as “an exemplary case of community in action with over 500 local shareholders and volunteers, is to be much admired.”
All entries for this year’s awards should be made online via http://www.civictrustawards.org.uk The website caries full instructions for entrants and allows the submission of photographs and supporting documents, which can be simply and easily uploaded.
Applications are invited from architects and developers; however, members of the public are also able to nominate successful local schemes for entry to the Awards. Whether it is a building, public space or public art project, please email info@civictrustawards.org.uk . The Civic Trust encourage applications from completed schemes that have particularly improved the quality of life for the local community.
Civic Trust Awards Managing Director, Malcolm Hankey said “The 2010 Civic Trust Awards attracted over 330 entries and winning projects demonstrating excellence in design whilst offering a cultural, social or economic benefit to the local community.
"We were delighted to see such a diverse range of projects submitted for consideration from all over the UK, Europe and it is our hope to expand the Awards internationally this year having already received expressions of interest from Argentina, Seattle, New York, Canada, Germany, Austria, France, Sweden and Belgium.”
The Civic Trust Awards team are also interested in attracting local people to act as Community Advisors on our volunteer assessment teams. Their role is to represent the views of the people who use or see the project as part of their environment.
