Fantastic Friday fun from Heritage Education
Each Friday of the school summer holidays will be extra special for Warwick’s children and families this year thanks to Heritage Education’s ‘Fantastic Fridays’.

From exploring Roman forts, going on bug hunts, meeting a court jester or searching for fossils, many treats are in store from the county council service. All activities offer creative and hands-on chances to discover more about Warwickshire’s history.
A guided tour around the Lunt Roman fort in Baginton takes place at 10am on Friday 6 August 2010. Visitors can explore the partially reconstructed fort and see how the Romans defended them selves against the tribes of Briton. Spaces are limited and cost £2.50 per person so book please telephone 01926 412069.
On 13 August families are invited to a picnic and puppet show in the garden at St John’s House Museum from 11am to 3pm where they can listen to the legends of Robin Hood and King Arthur, meet a court jester and make a souvenir to take home. This event costs £2.50 per child, 5s and under £1.00, and there is no need to book, just drop in.
The Warwick photo challenge on 20 August tasks people to create a photo album in a day by following heritage education clues to find Warwick locations and take photos there. Anyone taking part who makes a photo album by 5pm will be judged with the winner getting a behind the scenes tour of Warwickshire Museum. This activity will cost £5 per photo album entered. On 27 August a bug hunt for all the family will be taking place with Keeper of Natural History, Steven Falk, at Hill Close Gardens. Spaces are limited on the Bug Hunt and cost £5 per child and £1.00 for accompanying adults – please call 01926 412069 to book.
There is a chance to spend the day fossil hunting on Friday 3 September, when Jon Radley (Keeper of Geology at Warwickshire Museum) will be guiding the annual Family Fossil Hunt at Cross Hands Quarry.
Families can dig for their own fossils and take home any that they find. Tickets for this event are priced at £17.50 per person or £45 for a group of three and must include one adult are strictly limited and need to be booked by calling 01926 412069.
