M6 event to highlight dangers
Warwickshire County Council's Fire and Rescue Service are aiming to make roads safer at an event on the M6 Motorway from Warwickshire to Cumbria on Friday 23rd July.
As part of the event, firefighters will be talking to drivers at Corley services at both north and southbound locations, providing them with key road safety advice including;
- Keeping safe when driving on Warwickshire’s motorways.
- Consequences of collisions on motorways.
- Driving behaviour.
- Fatigue
- ‘Only a fool breaks the two second rule’.
- Distraction issues - mp3, sat nav, mobile phones.
Throughout the day there will be demonstrations of extraction techniques, a driver simulator, PS3 and beer goggles to simulate fatigue, drug and drinking impairment.
Young Peoples Initiative Manager, Richard Hitchins said:
"The aim of the event is to help young people to see the potential dangers of motorway driving.
"I hope that by seeing those dangers and the impact it has had on people’s lives, they can take the lessons learned back onto the roads, which will hopefully make them safer drivers."
