‘No foul play’ for Warwick district dogs
‘Bag it and bin it – it only takes a minute’ will be the message of a high profile campaign from Warwick District Council next week targeting local dog owners.
The District Council’s Environmental Health team will be taking a roadshow out around the district to offer advice and information on responsible dog ownership and dog fouling during the week commencing 26th July.
They will be visiting:
• Pump Room Gardens, Leamington Spa, Monday 26 July, 1pm – 4pm
• St Nicholas Park, Warwick, Tuesday 27 July, 10.30am – 3.30pm
• Abbey Fields, Kenilworth, Thursday 29 July , 10.30am – 3.30pm
• Acre Close Recreation Ground, Whitnash, Friday 30 July, 10.30am – 3.30pm
The District Council’s dog warden and Police Community Support Officers will also be patrolling the district and anyone seen not cleaning up after their dog in a public place will be liable to a fixed penalty notice of £50.
Councillor Michael Coker, Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “There are lots of dog lovers in the district and the majority of them are responsible owners. But the minority need to be reminded to keep their pets under control and, if they foul in a public place, to clean up after them.
"We hope that by having a high profile presence in these popular locations for dog walkers, it will remind people to ‘bag it and bin it’ – or face a £50 fine.”
Dog owners are reminded that they can bin dog poo in any litter bin and not just those provided for dog waste – and it only takes a minute.
Free dog poo bags will be available from various local shops throughout the week – look out for the window sticker in a shop near you.
Warwick District Council also wants your views on whether they should make dog control orders which can ban dogs from specified areas and/or require them to be kept on a lead.
