Here comes summer - Southam brimful of activities for young people

Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services team is urging young people and families in Southam and the surrounding areas to get involved in the huge range of activities on offer this summer.

The Southam cluster has worked with a wide range of local partners notably Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Southam Town Council, Southam College, local youth workers and independent trainers and tutors.

Extended Services has organised a range of venues across the area to make them more accessible and with many of the activities either free or subsidised, they are inclusive for all families.

All tastes are catered for.  Junk creations is a drop in session enabling families to create art from recyclable materials, Let’s Print is a chance for artistic children and their families to print from drawings and sketches.

For young people seeking more active pursuits, a range of dance is on offer for children including street dance, in which the latest urban moves are taught by a professional street dancer, whilst their parents can join them in belly dancing and line dancing.

Sports are also on offer through Positive About Young People’s Sports and Snax programme which runs every Friday at Southam Park Lane Rec between 12 and 2pm for 8-13 year olds.  Youngsters can try their hand at sports like football, cricket and basketball or a range of other activities including arts and crafts, music and the day includes a selection of snacks. and other games.

Councillor Heather Timms, portfolio holder for Children, Young People and Families, said:  “I am delighted to see that there are so many different options for people in the Southam area this summer.  Thanks to Extended Services, there is something throughout the area and, with the activities being free, they are inclusive for all families.”
