Did you know about...free library loans?

Warwickshire Libraries nowadays have lots that is new, shiny and high-tech, but we still offer all the traditional services local people know and love.

And, with everyone tightening their belt through tough economic times, there has never been a better time to get a library card. Over the summer, we will focus on a different aspect of Warwickshire County Council’s library service each week ......

Books, books and more books - that’s what people think of when you say the word ‘library’ and they are absolutely right. Free book loans are still the backbone of the library service, as they have been for 150 years.

Local people with a Warwickshire library card can borrow up to 10 books at any one time, from any one of the county’s 34 libraries or five mobiles, absolutely free. Loans are initially for three weeks but individual titles can usually be renewed (by telephone, in person or online), unless already reserved by someone else.

There’s a huge range of books to choose from - more than three quarters of a million in total, countywide. Times may be hard but Warwickshire’s library stock is constantly being refreshed, with more than 300 new loan titles added each day - including ordinary books, audio books, and large print versions.

It’s not all heavy stuff, either. We have chick-lit, children’s books and teen titles, alongside loads of non-fiction. Romantic novels rub shoulders with more serious reads in all Warwickshire libraries.

They are all books - and we just love them. So if you want a DIY manual, a cookery book, a weepie love story, or something a bit weightier - we can help. And our expert staff are always on hand if you need some advice.

Customers can browse the full catalogue on library computers or check out what’s available online at warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries. Either way they have ‘google-style’ access and can easily find what they are after.

Joining the library is free. Just call into any Warwickshire Library with some identification and our friendly staff will sort out your card and explain how things work. Simple as that. For ease, you can download an application form beforehand from the webpages or join online at warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries.
