New recycling policy for vehicles
Warwickshire County Council has announced a new policy for its Household Waste Recycling Centres to continue to help residents with commercial vehicles go green.
The policy builds on the introduction last year of vehicle permits, which recognised that some people have what was previously considered a commercial vehicle as their only means of transport.
The new vehicle and trailer restrictions apply at all household waste recycling centres in Warwickshire (Grendon, Judkins, Shipston, Hunters Lane, Cherry Orchard, Princes Drive, Stockton, Burton Farm and Wellesbourne).
The regulations are designed to tackle a range of issues, including the illegal disposal of commercial (trade) waste, which could otherwise cost the taxpayer more than £1 million a year.
A 12-month review of the policy and service improvements has recently been conducted resulting in the following key adjustments:
A maximum trailer bed length of 1.83 metres (six feet) for car-drawn trailers
Exemption for unaccompanied bulky household electrical and electronic equipment delivered in vans to most recycling centres (fridges and freezers not accepted at Wellesbourne)
Exemption for larger trailers – up to 2.5 metres in length – for the disposal of unaccompanied compostable green waste on weekdays before 12 noon (not Bank Holidays).
The revised policy, updated webpages and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) together with a downloadable vehicle permit application form for residents owning a car-derived van, large 4X4 or twin-cab pick-up can be found at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/vehiclerestrictions
