Rural Youth Bus on summer safety drive

Young people in rural parts of Stratford have been getting the chance to learn how to stay safe and reduce boredom this summer thanks to Warwickshire County Council.

As part of the Youth and Community Service’s holiday programme, the Rural Mobile Youth Bus has been visiting Salford Priors, Kineton and Lighthorne Heath, offering 13 to 19-year-olds in each location four days worth of activities.

The bus will also be available in Stockton for four days from 23 August to 26 August.

The all-day sessions include workshops around sexual health and alcohol awareness including using beer goggles to simulate the effects of too much alcohol, and making non-alcoholic fruit cocktails.

Sporting activities are offered in the afternoons and each week ends with a day trip to the seaside.

Loz Grinnell, Stratford area youth worker for Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service, said: “We’re travelling around rural areas this summer to try to reach as many young people as we can by offering them somewhere to go, something to do and someone to listen.

“It’s been really well received by the young people that have attended so far and the local communities, who have welcomed the mobile youth provision.”

Funding for the four-week programme has been provided by the Rural Mobile Youth project, part of Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service.
