Enjoy cycling to Warwick Cycle Races

Warwick Cycle Races takes place on Sunday 5th September 2010 and is a high profile sporting event to promote cycling in the region and encourage people to get out and enjoy their bikes.

For the first time in the event’s history, cycling clubs are organising informal cycle rides to the Warwick Cycle Races so people can get on their own bikes as well as watching the professionals in action.

Rides arranged so far include:
Stratford Market Place (American Fountain) leaving at 9.30am
Coventry Train Station (Starley House) leaving at 10am
Kenilworth Clock Tower meeting between 10.45am and 11am
Nuneaton Library leaving at 9.15am
Bulkington New Inn Pub meeting between 9.30am and 9.40am

Laura Vesty, Sustainable Travel Officer at Warwickshire County Council said: “The event is a great day out for everyone but in the past some cyclists have brought their bikes on their cars. We want to encourage people that live within cycling distance to have a go and enjoy cycling over to the event, as it really is the best way of travelling on a summer’s day.”

This year the event is set to have more activities and visitors than ever. There’s a whole host of stalls and family activities at the event including unicycling, juggling, children’s rides, facepainting, Dr Bike provided by Action 21, balloon making and people can pedal their own smoothie on the Blendavenda.

The event starts at 11am with the National A Race for elite cyclists being the finale from 5pm to 6pm. Visitors can attend any time of day and the event is completely free.

British Cycling and Warwickshire County Council organise the event and would like to thank the sponsors TravelWise, Carillion, Telent and Hinckley and South Wigston Cycle Centre without which the event would not take place.
