Free swimming extended

Warwick District Council has agreed to extend free swimming for the over 60s and under 16s until 31st March 2011.

Free swimming is available for the over 60s and under 16s at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre, St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre and Abbey Fields Swimming Pool.

It was due to come to an end this month, following the announcement that central Government has decided to end nationwide funding for free swimming.

But the success of the scheme has seen Warwick District Council extend the project locally until 31st March 2011.

To splash out without splashing out, just take your proof of age identification to any of the pools, where you will be asked to complete an application form.

Those 60 and over will be required to show proof of age e.g. driving licence, passport or pension book. Those under 16 will need a parent or guardian to complete a form as well as providing some details on themselves and accompany their children when registering. Proof of age is required e.g. a birth certificate or passport.

All those registering will receive a Get Active Card to allow access to the pool, which needs to be shown on every visit. Registering for a Get Active Card costs £2 to cover the cost of the card and administration of the registration.

Free swimming is available for all public or general swimming sessions, but is not available for aqua based classes, children’s swimming lessons or ‘Splosh’ sessions.
