Give us your views on concessionary travel

Warwickshire County Council has launched a survey to gather views on changes to arrangements for providing concessionary travel schemes.

Currently, concessionary travel is funded by the Government who allocate resources to local authorities at district, borough and unitary council level to deliver the service. From April 1 next year the Department for Transport (DfT) is transferring responsibility for the administration to county level as part of a national £180 million saving.

To help inform the decision process around how the county council delivers the service, a questionnaire has been published for Warwickshire residents to have their say until October 10.

The survey is online at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/concessionarytravel or can be requested in another format by emailing format@warwickshire.gov.uk or calling 01926 418633. Alternatively, paper versions can be requested by calling 01926 412842.

The current statutory scheme allows travel between 9.30am and 11pm Mondays to Fridays and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays. In Warwickshire, travel has been enhanced to enable access from 9am.

The cost of the discretionary enhancement is directly funded by the districts and borough councils until the April 1 handover.

Future funding levels for concessionary travel is subject to the Government’s Autumn Spending Review and the county council is now considering the affordability of the discretion aspect as part of its business case.

The outcome of the survey is due to be published in a report to Cabinet in November.
