Firefighters show they have a real talent for gardens in bloom!

Fire stations across Warwickshire have been creating their very own gardens in bloom as part of the annual Dennis Lawrence Garden Competition.

Atherstone Fire Station is this year’s winner, with their unique creation of a floral Warwickshire bear.  Bidford Fire Station secured the winner of the Retained section for the third consecutive year.

Warwickshire’s Chief Officer, Graeme Smith, chose the winner from nine entries from stations from across the county. This is the 13th year that the competition has been run in memory of a former personnel officer of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, Dennis Lawrence.

On judging the competition, Chief Fire Officer, Graeme Smith said:
“This is the first time that I have had to judge this competition and I was surprised to see the work firefighters have put into the gardens in their own time to create some very innovative displays. I think the garden at Atherstone really was unique, and is something the community can be proud of, which is why they were the overall winners for me.”

Stations taking part had to create a mini summer garden, to make their station one the community could be proud of. The runners up for the competition include the training and development centre in Bedworth and Southam fire station.

Other winners include;
Runner up Wholetime: Bedworth Training and Development Centre
Runner up Retained: Southam Fire Station
Most Improved: Wellesbourne Fire Station
Best Hanging Baskets: Bidford Fire Station
