Big Society is introduced to Stratford - Long Marston Greenway

Country Parks managers at Warwickshire County Council have issued a rallying call to residents and local volunteers to assist with managing the popular walking, cycling and horse riding facility.

The appeal for community involvement follows a recent announcement that parking charges were being considered at the Seven Meadows car park as part of Warwickshire County Council’s budget measures.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Economy, said: "Further to a recent meeting regarding the possible introduction of parking charges, we have listened to locals concerns and wish to implement ‘a big society approach’ as an alternative to introducing charges."
Paula Cheesman, the county council’s Country Parks and Greenways Manager, said: "Country Parks are appealing for your involvement on the Stratford – Long Marston Greenway by forming a ‘friends of’ group and are looking for volunteers to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the park, and have influence and input into its maintenance and future management and to activate and engage local residents in making this the place to visit.
“Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and volunteer for different reasons. Sometimes they just want to put something back, others want to learn new skills or gain experience towards employment”.

Residents interested in being part of the new group should email parks@warwickshire.gov.uk, or telephone 01827 872660 quoting Stratford Greenway Group.
