Fire station opens doors for family fun day
Coleshill firefighters are inviting residents to join the fun at their annual fire station open day later this month.
The free ‘Community Safety Day’, organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, will be held at Coleshill Fire Station, Park Road, on Sunday 26 September between 12pm and 4pm.
It’s an opportunity for the public to see first hand what is involved in being a modern day firefighter, police officer or ambulance paramedic, and learn about important fire safety messages. Crews will be on hand to give home fire safety advice and offer residents free Home Fire Safety Checks.
A range of demonstrations will run throughout the day including cutting casualties from wreckage and a mock rescue from a flat fire. Emergency vehicles including special fire service appliances, Police pursuit cars and motorbikes and Ambulances will also be on show as well as the Fire and Emergency Support Unit.
In addition, representatives from St Johns Ambulance and Neighbourhood Watch will be attending to offer residents advice and support.
Visitors will be able to take part in and watch a number of activities including face painting, bouncy castle, abseiling, sumo wrestling, a wildlife show, hose reel target range, street dancing and a driving simulator to name only a few.
Proceeds from the day will be going to Help for Heroes and the Firefighters’ Charity.
Watch Manager Andy Bates said: “Our Community Safety Day gives residents and visitors the chance to learn more about the county’s emergency services and what we’re doing to make the communities safer.
“We’re really pleased that so many organisations have got involved and hope that everyone takes the opportunity to come along, learn something useful and have some fun at the same time.”
