Essential work to Willow on Banbury Road, Stratford

Essential maintenance pruning work is set to be carried out on a Weeping Willow tree on Banbury Road in Stratford later this month.

Due to the poor structural condition of the tree, located near the petrol station,  Warwickshire County Council officers have arranged for this tree to be pollarded at a height of seven to eight metres.

This follows emergency pruning work that was carried out earlier this season after it sustained significant damage during stormy weather.

Gavin Callard, Arboricultural Officer for Warwickshire County Council, said: “Following more detailed inspection, further work has been deemed necessary in view of public safety.

“The work is scheduled for the end of September as a measure to prevent any further storm damage in the autumn and winter months.

“However, during the winter planting season a young Silver Pendant Lime tree will be planted close by, eventually replacing the Willow once the new tree is well established.”

Along with this work, a young Lime tree on the Shipston Road side of the petrol station will also be removed because of its poor structural form. Another young Lime tree is already growing beside it and this will adequately fill the position in maturity.
