Young people given an Olympic taster
Young people have had a taste of Olympic success as part of a summer programme organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme.
Over the school holidays, 10 to 13-year-olds taking part in ‘Snax N Sports’ sessions across the county were able to enter a competition based on Olympic-themed events.
The multi-tathlon included long jump, foam javelin and an obstacle course among some of the usual ‘Snax N Sports’ options such as football, cricket and tennis.
At the end of the six-week programme, the top three participants from each area were awarded a certificate and a prize for their efforts.
Patrick Carroll, Senior Activity Worker for Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, said: “Young people really are starting to get excited about the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, so we wanted to harness that over the summer holidays.
“We would like to say a big thank you to every one who took part in the competition and hope everyone had as much fun as we did organising it.”
‘Snax N Sports’ is just one example of services available from Positive about Young People and partners countywide. PODS are another example of what is on offer, starting on 27 September 2010.
