Care leavers with a head for heights

A group of young care leavers abseiled down the 75ft (23m) high Walsall Art Gallery on Saturday 2 October.

The brave trio Michael Green, 17; Dan Cherrie, 19 and Jasmine Grinnell, 24 took on the sky high challenge to raise money for the Care Leavers Forum which is supported by Warwickshire County Council.

The forum aims to make young people feel more comfortable about being in, and leaving care, providing them with social activity, as well a support and information network.

Forum members are all care leavers who make sure the voices of Warwickshire’s looked after young people are heard on a national level, and that these youngsters have access to positive experiences and life chances.

Warwickshire County Councillor Heather Timms, portfolio holder for children, young people and families said: “Congratulations to Michael, Dan and Jasmine who completed the charity abseil to raise money to provide opportunities for looked after children in the county.

“With support from staff from the council’s leaving care team these forum members put a great deal of time and effort into projects which will benefit other children and young people in care.”
