Fire crews tackle building blaze
Firefighters have spent the morning tackling a blaze at an engineering firm on Nelson Lane in Warwick.
Fire crews were called to the incident at 06.28 this morning. On arrival firefighters were faced with a fire in a two storey building used by an engineering company. The area was quickly cordoned off and road closures were put in place. A local school and some local businesses were also evacuated. At the height of the incident over 25 firefighters from across the county were tackling the blaze.
Advice was given to residents living locally at the time of the incident to close all windows and doors due to the smoke coming from the fire. The fire is now out, but crews remain on site damping down ensuring the area is safe. Schools and business affected in the local area will be open as normal tomorrow.
Throughout the day Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service have been working a number of agencies to manage the incident including the Health Protection Agency, Warwickshire Police, Warwick District Council and emergency planners.
Incident Commander, Ken Probin said:
“Crews are still on site, damping down, making the area safe. Unfortunately the severity of the fire has destroyed most of the building which was used by an engineering company. The cause of the fire is not yet known and once the area is clear, the scene will be examined by the fire investigation team.”
