Services come together in Bedworth

A new era has dawned for the way that council services are delivered in Bedworth this week.

For the first time, residents will be able to access services from both Warwickshire County Council and Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council face-to-face in one location.

The ‘Warwickshire Direct – Bedworth’ One Stop Shop at King’s House, which has enabled residents to access county council services face-to-face in the town since 2006, closed its doors to the public on Friday (1st October).

That’s because the county council have now joined forces with the borough council at the Nuneaton & Bedworth Area Office on the High Street in Bedworth, enabling residents to access both county and borough services in one place.

Both councils have been working together for some time to offer the concept of ‘one front door’, meaning that residents can go to one location to access all the services they need, with the benefit of making it easier for residents and a more efficient way of providing services for the councils.

The councils already run two other successful joint One Stop Shops in the borough, at Nuneaton Town Hall and Stockingford.

Councillor Colin Hayfield, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customers, Workforce and Partnerships, said:

“Although the One Stop Shop at King’s House was a good facility, it makes much more sense for us to join with Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council and offer both county and borough council services from one Bedworth location.

“We have been successfully delivering joint services at Nuneaton Town Hall and at ‘Warwickshire Direct- Stockingford’ for some time and this way of working makes life much easier for residents, who only need to go to one place to get all their council queries dealt with. This is the ethos of ‘Warwickshire Direct’ – to improve access to all our services.”
