Town centre roads reopen for business
Two main streets in Warwick have now fully reopened following the completion of necessary gas mains renewal work by National Grid.
Warwickshire County Council, the highway authority, is delighted that the completion of work along Bowling Green Street and Theatre Street has been achieved two weeks ahead of schedule.
The town’s traders have welcomed the conclusion of the work and can now look forward to the busy run-up to Christmas without customers being hindered by roadworks.
The county council, which is also responsible for Warwick bus station, confirmed that all bus services serving the town returned to normal and began using the bus station from last Monday (October 4).
There are some minor changes in place with a couple of services now departing from different stands. Full information is displayed at the bus station.
Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Economy, said: “The road closures posed some difficult problems with traffic flows in Warwick, and everyone – in particular the local traders - has been patient while National Grid completed the essential maintenance.
“We are delighted that this work has been completed well ahead of schedule and it vindicates the decision to proceed with the work over the quieter summer months.
"The result of our traffic management plan for the period of work meant only minimal problems to transport through the town. Bus services play a vital role in bringing people into the town and it is good to see buses fully using the new bus station again.”
