Warwickshire Man Booker winner announced
Members of the Warwickshire Super Reading Group shadowing the Man Booker shortlist have chosen their winner.
At a small, select ceremony on Monday (18 October) at Nuneaton Library the super reading group chose their ultimate Warwickshire Booker Prizewinner from the shortlist of six books. The Warwickshire shadowers winning book is The Finkler Question by Howard Jacobson.
At a slightly larger event at London’s Guildhall on Tuesday night the Man Booker prize winner was announced by the five judges. The winner is The Finkler Question.
The Warwickshire reading group are one of six groups across the country, who won the privilege of "shadowing" the Man Booker prize, and are thrilled about it.
They each read all six shortlisted titles at the same time as the judges, and contributed their own reviews, comments and blogs on to the Man Booker website. They announced their own "Warwickshire Booker Prizewinner" on the 11th October, before the Man Booker announced their winner on the 12th October.
Jan Dawson, Reader Development Librarian for Warwickshire, said:
"This has been a "once-in-a-lifetime " chance to be so involved in this renowned literary award, and Warwickshire Libraries are proud to have been able to take part. Choosing the same winning book as the national judges is the icing on the cake for the super reading group.
Out of the six groups who shadowed the Man Booker prize across the country, Warwickshire was the only group to pick the same winner.”
