The first issue is around how residential care for older people is provided in the area. The discussion focuses on the future of care homes run by Warwickshire County Council in Nuneaton and Bedworth, looking at how services might more effectively be provided to local people in different ways.

The care homes operated by the County Council in the area are, in Nuneaton, Caldwell Grange, and in Bedworth, Mayfield.

Secondly, there will be a discussion with NHS Warwickshire about their consultation on North Warwickshire Intermediate Care and Bramcote Hospital – a hospital which mainly cares for frail elderly people.

This discussion will focus on the three options outlined in the consultation: Bramcote Hospital continues in its current use; Bramcote Hospital is used for admission prevention and rehabilitation; or Intermediate Care services are provided in the community and the Virtual Ward is extended across North Warwickshire. The third option would involve the closure of Bramcote Hospital.

County Councillor Julie Jackson, Chair of the Area Committee, is keen to give as many people as possible an opportunity to contribute to the discussion, saying “these are two really important local issues around the care of older people in Nuneaton and Bedworth – it is so important that we ensure that local views are heard and acted on.”

The meeting takes place on Thursday 28th October, 6.00pm at the Eliot Park Innovation Centre, 4 Barling Way, Nuneaton and is open to the public. Members of the public will have the opportunity to contribute to the debate.

The Nuneaton and Bedworth Area Committee involves all of the County Councillors for the Nuneaton and Bedworth Area. It provides a means by which local councillors can take a view on these issues in consultation with local people and then make recommendations to County Council decision makers.
