Fire Service showcases its services
Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service has been showcasing its services to Councillors on the Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
The councillors were invited to Leamington Fire Station to view the new CARP (combined aerial rescue platform), learn more about how the service manages their resources and watch a breathing apparatus demonstration. As part of the event, Councillors were given an informative tour of the fire control to see how fire appliances are mobilised to incidents and how control staff manage ‘999’ calls. They were also given an operational demonstration on how the CARP works at high rise incidents.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Gary Phillips said:
“The main aim of the event was to show councillors how the investments we have made are improving the services we deliver to the communities of Warwickshire. The CARP is one of those investments, which we were keen to showcase to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee in order for them to gain a greater understanding of not only what the appliance can do but also how it helps us to achieve efficiencies.
Chair of the Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Councillor John Whitehouse said:
“The Overview and Scrutiny Committee plays a central role in reviewing issues of local concern and holding decision makers to account, to ensure services meet the needs of local people.
“The visit to Fire and Rescue head quarters enabled the Communities OSC to gain an insight into the operational management of the Fire and Rescue Service and to witness first hand some of the excellent work being undertaken by the fire and rescue service to make communities safe. Seeing the capabilities of the CARP in action developed our understanding of the vehicles, they are very robust vehicles which have the dual ability to use as both an appliance and high rise platform.”
