North Warwickshire Bonfire Night Safety Campaign

Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, Youth Services and North Warwickshire Safer Neighbourhood Teams are joining forces to highlight the dangers of fireworks on bonfire night.

As part of the campaign, the community fire safety display trailer (supported by local fire appliances and PCSO’s) will be visiting schools throughout North Warwickshire delivering powerful safety messages during the lead up to this year’s celebrations.

These will include practical demonstrations on how to use sparklers safely, the safety guidelines around fireworks and an interactive firework safety game (using a 2nd world war hand grenade to emphasise the possible dangers!)

Schools and youth groups taking part include:
Curdworth Primary School:  1st   November:  9.45am to 11.15am
Nursery Hill Primary School, Ansley Common: 1st November:  14.00pm to 15.30pm

North Warwickshire Community Fire Safety Coordinator Andy Bates said: "We don’t want to be seen as spoiling anyone’s fun, but this time of year we are always concerned that firework night celebrations are conducted safely.

"This campaign allows us to work with our community partners to reach young people throughout North Warwickshire with a positive message about treating fire responsibly.

“As an extra bonus this year, fire crews will be engaging with parents as they collect their children offering home fire safety advice and, if required, distributing free smoke alarms. It’s hoped this campaign will reach up to 2,000 students with further schools to be added to the schedule.”
