To rap or not to rap…that is the question

Budding young lyrical stars are being called upon to write a rap or poem about what it’s like to live in and around Warwickshire.

It’s part of a new project called ‘explode the ode’, organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People (PaYP) programme.

It aims to celebrate young people’s literacy talents, given that PaYP has worked in schools and the community for several years and has noticed that they like to write lyrics around topics they feel strongly about. It is also another way of recording history from a young person’s perspective.

All entries will be proof-read before being displayed on the Positive about Young people website – http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/payp.

Mark Bolton, Operations Manager at Positive about Young People, said: “Young people really enjoy writing about issues close to their hearts, and with bonfire night coming up we thought it was the perfect opportunity to ignite that enthusiasm.

“Warwickshire is well-known for a particular wordsmith and lesser so for having a historical link to the gun powder plot, so we’re really looking forward to some explosive write-ups.”

Poems and raps can be submitted by: email to lucycreed@warwickshire.gov.uk; sent by post to Positive about Young People, 3rd Floor, Kings House, King Street, Bedworth, CV12 8LL; or handed in to a member of the PaYP team.
