Firefighters launch safety campaign
Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service will be working in schools in Rugby to highlight the dangers of fireworks on bonfire night.
Bonfire night is one of the busiest nights of the year for most emergency services due to the amount of small fires and firework related incidents, the majority of which occur at family or private parties and are caused through the misuse of fireworks or failure to observe the firework code.
As part of the campaign, firefighters will be visiting schools throughout Rugby delivering powerful safety messages to over 2250 young people during the lead up to this year’s celebrations. Schools taking part include:
* Bilton High school, Lawford Lane, Rugby
* Avon Valley, Newbold Road, Rugby
* Boughton Leigh Junior School, Hollowell Way, Rugby
* Henry Hinde Junior School, Cornwallis Road, Rugby
Watch Manager, Keith McDermott said: “We don’t want to be seen as spoiling anyone’s fun, but this time of year we are always concerned that firework night celebrations are conducted safely.
"This campaign allows us to work with young people in Rugby with a positive message about treating fire responsibly, whilst at the same time showing them how to stay safe when around fireworks.”
