The children are taking over
The world of museums and promotion are to be the challenge facing youngsters as they are thrown into the adult world this Friday.
Warwickshire County Council’s Museum Service and Heritage Education are taking part in the national Takeover Day.
Youngsters from Myton School in Warwick will be ‘given’ £500 to organise the launch event for the Museum’s next exhibition on Museum on the Move.
They’ll be split into two groups and then they will pitch their idea in a ten minute presentation to a small panel of museum staff and a winner will then be selected. The winning idea will then be used for the launch.
All of the youngsters will then be invited back on the launch day to see their ideas put into practice.
Takeover Day is a national event offering children and young people across the country the chance to work alongside adults and get involved in decision-making in a wide range of organisations.
Now in its fourth year, the event has gone from strength to strength since it was launched. Last year, around 30,000 children and young people worked with hundreds of organisations, including businesses, schools, police and fire services, newspapers, banks, TV and radio stations, charities, local councils, MPs, hospitals and government departments.
This year organisers want to encourage 40,000 children and young people to show adults what they can do.

Cllr Heather Timms, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I can’t wait to hear about the results. Children can be fantastically creative and I’m sure the museum staff will be delighted with the results.”
