Young people organise Lillington litter pick

Young people in Lillington have spent the weekend clearing litter and removing graffiti in their community.

The 11 to 16-year-olds from Lillington Youth Centre spent most of Saturday afternoon cleaning around the Crown Way shops, the local park and a number of streets, supported by county council youth workers and PCSOs.

Hollie Hutchings, Youth and Community Worker, said: “They felt they wanted to do something positive for the community to improve the image of young people, and came up with the litter pick and graffiti removal.

“After spending the afternoon working hard, they all felt a real sense of achievement, and understand the importance of doing their bit for the area they live in.”

14-year-old Danny was one of the young people taking part and said: “We are doing this to show that we do care about Lillington and that the majority of young people aren’t how they are sometimes made out to be.”

Due to the success of the litter pick last weekend, the young people have suggested another one next month.
