Shortlist announced for 2011 Warwickshire Book Award

The shortlist of six books for the 2011 Warwickshire Book Award has been chosen by secondary school librarians from across the county, together with staff from the Schools Library Service.

The books are selected for pupils in years 7 and 8 to vote for the winner, and the main criterion is that the book must be a "page-turner".  After a lot of discussion the panel chose the following:

Gillian Cross Where I belong
Harriet Goodwin The boy who fell down exit 43
Ally Kennen Sparks
Jon Mayhew Mortlock
Andrew Newbound Demon strike
Pat Walsh The Crowfield curse

Stella Thebridge, Manager, Warwickshire Schools Library Service, said:
“We hope the secondary school students will enjoy the range of topics - historical, fantasy, ghoulish, Viking and current affairs - represented in turn by these exciting stories.”

Schools registered to join in with the award will come to a final celebration in March to choose the winner and hear from one of the authors.  Any schools who would like to sign up should contact schoolslibraryservice@warwickshire.gov.uk or ring us on 01926 413461/2 soon.
