Beating the bullies together

Warwickshire’s Anti-bullying Partnership will be raising awareness of bullying and helping schools to tackle the issue this week.

The partnership have provided information to schools along with resources from the Anti-bullying Alliance giving them lots of ideas to help them support national Anti-bullying Week which runs from 15-19 November.

This year’s theme is ‘taking action together’ which focuses on getting everyone to take responsibility when it comes to tackling bullying. Everyone has a role to play and people who see or hear about bullying are being encouraged not to stand by and let it happen and to speak up and offer support.

Activities taking place in schools during the week include pledging to ‘take action together against bullies’, and acting out bystander scenarios. Pupils will also be looking at how wide-reaching the effects of bullying can be and the things they can do to make a difference.

Warwickshire County Councillor Heather Timms, Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families said: “The partnership works extremely hard to stamp out bullying throughout the year but this week is a chance for everyone to get on board and think about what they can do to make their friends and families safer.”

Viv Sales, Chair of the Anti-bullying Partnership added: “We have been working with schools to develop resources to support Anti-bullying Week in Warwickshire for a number of years now.

“Over this time schools have become more involved, school representation in the partnership has grown as a result and we have developed a close information sharing network between schools and partners. This enables us to be more effective in our approach to tackle bullying in the county.”

Warwickshire’s anti-bullying partnership is made up of Warwickshire County Council, schools, Warwickshire Police and a range of other agencies including Connexions, Relate and Victim Support who work together to influence positive behaviours and stamp out bullying.
