Red Box Lottery launches in Nuneaton and Bedworth and North Warwickshire

Residents served by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council have a chance to win £50 just by recycling.

Warwickshire County Council is working with both Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council to run the weekly Red Box Lottery scheme where each week a household who has put their recycling out for collection will be selected at random to receive £50 of vouchers.

All residents in Nuneaton and Bedworth and North Warwickshire have to do to be in with a chance of winning the £50 each week is put their red box and/or recycling bags out for collection by 7am on their normal collection day and make sure it is filled with the correct recyclable items such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and cans.

North Warwickshire Borough Council competition prizes have been sponsored by Snowdome, The Sandwich Factory, Planters Garden Centre and Midlands Co-operative Society Limited.

The Red Box Lottery will take place throughout December and January, so make sure you put your recycling out every collection to be in with a chance of winning.

The aim of the red box lottery is to increase recycling by encouraging even more people to use their red boxes and recycling bags.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Economy, said: “The Red Box Lottery is a novel way of getting people using their boxes and putting items out for recycling. By simply putting out the red box and bags with items for collection, you could win £50.

“Hopefully we will see even more people starting to use their red boxes to help us push up those recycling figures and divert waste away from landfill.”

Councillor Tilly May, North Warwickshire Borough Council’s Chair of the Community and Environment Board, said: "We know there are many residents who don’t use their red boxes so hopefully this will be an incentive for them to start recycling.  But thanks too to all the North Warwickshire residents who do use the boxes and bags to prevent rubbish going to landfill. "

Councillor Bill Sheppard, Portfolio holder for the Environment at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said: “Not only is the red box lottery a great way to encourage more people to recycle, but it is a lovely way to be able to reward and thank the residents of the borough for their continued support with the kerbside recycling scheme”.
