Views sought on Castle Farm renovation

A public consultation is being held to gauge residents’ views on proposals to renovate parts of the grounds surrounding the Castle Farm recreation centre, Fishponds Road, Kenilworth.

Everyone is invited to come along to the centre between 9am and 12.30pm on Saturday 27th November to learn about the proposals and have a say in how they are taken forward.

The catalyst for the renovation work was a presentation delivered by local skateboarders to the Kenilworth Community Forum.

Cllr Pauline Edwards, Chair of the Community Forum, said: “Fifteen young people came along to the Forum and talked about their experiences using the skate park, and how much the facility means to them.

“We were all very impressed with their presentation and their ideas about how to raise the money to pay for the improvements that they asked us about. The Forum itself awarded £5,000 towards the cost of the renovation project, but the young people had some great ideas about fundraising that they could lead themselves.”

The project has so far attracted additional funding from Warwick District Council’s Community Safety Team and the South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership, enabling several of the skaters’ renovation requests to be developed.

Top of that list is the proposal to install lighting on a timer switch so that the skaters can make better use of the facility in the darker months, and this is one of the proposals on which members of the public are invited to comment at the consultation event.

Work has already been completed to extend the tarmac-ed area of the skate park as well as to re-site a waste bin to help keep littering down. It is also hoped that some of the equipment can be replaced as part of the renovations.

More information will also be available on a separate proposal to develop a cycling track in the grounds of the recreation centre.

The feedback gathered from the public consultation will be discussed at the Kenilworth Community Forum being held on Monday 6th December at the Kenilworth Youth and Community Centre, Abbey End car park, from 7pm.

Anyone who would like more information about the consultation event and the proposals should ring Jane Coates, Localities and Communities Officer on 01926 456103.
