Warwickshire firefighter set his sights high for New York Marathon
Warwickshire firefighter, Ian Tonner, is back celebrating completing the New York Marathon, beating his own personal record by completing the race in 4:17:39.
Ian ran the New York Marathon on Sunday 7th November after a gruelling training schedule of five half marathons in just three weeks, including the Birmingham half marathon.
This is the third marathon in 3 years, one in London and two in New York. This year he beat his personal time by only 2 minutes, but along with three friends he has managed to raise over £8,000 for the Challenger Trust, a charity supporting disadvantaged young people from across the UK.
Returning from the Marathon, Ian said: "The atmosphere in New York is amazing and it is a real inspiration to see so many people running the race for charity. The weather was great. I think it was the biggest Marathon ever, with over 44,000 finishers. I came around the 20,000 mark, which is the top half – I am really pleased that my hard work and training helped to get me through!
“The race has left me with a small reminder, with a tiny blister and sore legs, but it was an amazing event to take part in and I am glad that by running the marathon, we have been able to raise so much money for our chosen charity, Challenge Trust.”
