Budbrooke Primary School pupil wins Warwickshire firework poem and poster competition
Erin Shepstone, a pupil at Budbrooke Primary School has won first prize in the under 7’s age category of the Warwickshire Firework Safety Poem and Poster Competition (Warwick area), organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service.
Erin will be presented with her prize at a school assembly on Friday 19th November at 2pm.
The aim of the competition is to remind children about the dangers of fireworks. Every year fireworks cause hundreds of avoidable injuries. Around half of all injuries happen to children under the age of 16 years, many of whom may have ugly burn scars, for life.
Erin’s poster was chosen from over 70 entries and was the winning poster because of its bright eye catching colours and great safety message. Erin will be presented with her prize, a £10 book token, at her school and will see her poster featured as part of next year’s firework safety campaign.
Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said: "I would like to congratulate the winners of this competition and thank all those who took part. The standard of entries was again very high this year and showed just how much young children know about keeping themselves safe on bonfire night.
"I know they will follow the guidance we are providing and have a safe and enjoyable 5th of November!"
