Young people have their say on Woodloes play areas
Decision-makers have listened to more than 80 children and young people when developing two new play areas in Warwick.
Warwick District Council approached the county council’s Youth and Community Service and Extended Services to consult with groups of 7 to 17-year-olds (and young people up to the age of 24 with disabilities) about new equipment for the Woodloes Estate.
Year 6 pupils from Woodloes Primary School and members of various youth groups in Warwick were involved in choosing the facilities on the Bluebells (Twycross Walk) and the REC (Scarbank), which were funded by money from a Section 106 agreement.
Anna Stowe, Locality Coordinator for the Youth and Community Service (Warwick area), said: “The young people really have enjoyed getting involved in making decisions that can improve the area, giving them something positive to do in the community.”
County Councillor Martyn Ashford, Governor of Woodloes Primary School and Chair of the Trustees for Woodloes Community Centre, said: “We have listened to the comments of children and young people on the Woodloes estate, and with our partners at the district council, have developed something we hope they can be particularly proud of. As chairman, I would like to thank my fellow trustees for all their effort to establish a much needed facility for Woodloes.”
Cllr Moira-Ann Grainger, Warwick District Councillor and Chair of the Warwick Community Forum, said: “The two improved play areas are the result of great partnership working between both the council and the community.
“Having been involved in all discussions, I am really pleased to see how much enjoyment both our young people and local families are getting from this welcome addition to the Woodloes.”
