Kineton Library is moving
Kineton Library will be on the move soon, to a new home in the Village Hall.
Warwickshire County Council is moving the library out of the current rented premises in Bridge Street because of deteriorating conditions which are not good for staff, customers - or books.
“We are delighted - and grateful - that the Village Hall Association has agreed to rent us a room,” said Linda Smith, Head of Libraries (Operations) for Warwickshire County Council. “Our new home is in a central location and has the additional benefits of level access and car parking.”
Linda said Kineton would also be getting a weekly mobile library visit, giving local customers access to the internet, computerised catalogues and other online services. And although the new library is smaller and will have less display space, customers will be able to order and reserve loan items from countywide stock free of charge.
“We would also like to provide a drop-box for library returns in another community venue for added customer convenience,” said Linda. “We have one in a Kenilworth supermarket allowing people to return their library loans as they do their shopping, and it has proved really popular. So if any Kineton businesses would be willing to have a drop-box on their premises, we would love to hear from them.”
The Village Hall library will be open on the same days, at the same times, as before. Details of the move are being finalised and further information will be issued shortly. Kineton might be without a library for a week or two, while stock is moved to the new location - but no longer, if all goes to plan.
Cllr Colin Hayfield, Portfolio-holder for Customers, Workforce and Partnerships, said: “The damp problem is extremely unfortunate, but the Library & Information Service has found alternative ways to meet the Library needs of a modern-day village community.
