Make sure that buying a car doesn't drive you round the bend

Thinking of buying your first car? Whether it is new or second hand Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service are advising consumers to spend a little more time doing their research when choosing to buy a car – as this could save a lot of time and money in the long run.

To help, the Service has teamed up with Consumer Direct and the regions Trading Standards teams, CEnTSA (Central England Trading Standards Authorities) to produce a new booklet entitled ‘Your guide to buying your first car.’

The booklet, which is being offered free of charge to all sixth forms and colleges across Warwickshire and is also available to download, has all the advice a young person needs when looking for the right motor.

How much to pay for a car
How to finance your purchase
What to look for when you inspect the vehicle
What paperwork you will need

Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said: “Complaints about car purchases regularly feature in the top ten of consumer complaints and so it is important that young people, thinking of buying their first car have all the information they need to make an informed choice.

"I strongly urge anyone, young or old, thinking of buying their first car, to take a look at our free booklet.”
