The ultimate gift for motorcyclists

Help keep the rider in your life safe on two wheels and snap up some training vouchers - the perfect gift for Christmas.

Warwickshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit is urging the family and friends of motorcyclists to consider buying them a Take Control Training Day.

Take Control gives motorcyclists a full day of skills enhancement training from expert instructors for just £30. The course aims to improve the skills and confidence of riders so that they can ride in a smoother and safer fashion.

The focus is on-road practical training with the day tailored to meet the needs of individual riders. A maximum ratio of two students to one instructor ensures riders get plenty of friendly advice and the opportunity to practice.

County Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said: “Families and friends of riders often worry about the safety of their loved ones when they are out on their bikes and when you look at the casualty statistics you can understand why.

“Motorcyclists are a vulnerable road user group accounting for about a fifth of Warwickshire’s fatal and serious road casualties. Take Control gives riders an opportunity to brush up on their riding skills and learn new techniques that will help them to stay safe on the road and get more from their riding.

"Giving the motorcyclist in your life the gift of a day out with a Take Control instructor could be the best present you every buy.”

The training is delivered by 90-One Rider Education, Director Trevor Lord, added: “Starting with a brief and a hot drink at a favourite café, then spending a day on the bike with plenty more café stops for informal de-briefs, general biking chat, and refuelling is most motorcyclists’ idea of a great day out.

“We work hard to ensure the courses are enjoyable as well as informative and we are hoping motorcyclists will take up this offer over the next few months as they start looking forward to better weather and more opportunities to ride.”

The Take Control training programme is available to anyone who rides in Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire and is subsidised by Warwickshire County Council and the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia.

Take Control vouchers are available by telephoning 0845 370 9191 or emailing info@90-ONE.com. Vouchers will be valid until the end of March 2011.
