Young singers save the day
Three young singers, members of the County Youth Waits, saved a Christmas concert last night at St Mary’s Church Warwick earlier this week.
The professional singer who had been booked for the event was unable to perform because of illness but Lucinda Murphy, Samantha Tooze and Rowan Bidmead saved the day.
The girls were at St Mary’s rehearsing for a concert given by the world renowned York Waits when they were asked if they could fill the performers shoes. They decided to take up the challenge and delivered a performance featuring Christmas music from the medieval and renaissance periods. The girls received rapturous applause from a full church.
Youth Waits Director Alison Kinder said: “This was a great chance for our young students to learn from sharing a concert with professionals; they made the most of it and created a great impression with their enthusiasm and their skills.”
The County Youth Waits is part of the County Music Service and is promoted by the Warwickshire Early Music Academy. The group has played at prestigious festivals like the International Early Music Festival at Greenwich and the York Early Music Festival.
With concert appearances such as these they continue to demonstrate that Warwickshire CMS is a national leader in the field of Early Music for young people.
