County council publishes £500 spend data
Warwickshire County Council has responded to the government’s challenge for greater transparency by making public the details of spending of £500 or more for the first time.
The data, which was published on 31 December 2010 in time to meet the government’s target, can be found by visiting our website at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/supplierpayments
The spend data gives details on what was purchased, when and from who. The first published data covers supplier spending of over £500 for the month of November. The data for December will be published on the website by the end of January and each month onwards.
Joanna Rhodes, Warwickshire County Council’s Head of Local Financial Services, said: “The publication of this data is part of the county council’s commitment to be open and transparent with our residents. We know that residents want to understand how their money is being spent and they are now able to access all the information through this dedicated web page.”
Cllr Martin Heatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources which includes responsibility for finance, said: “The government is very keen for us to be transparent with our financial transactions and we welcome this approach. The publication of details of spending of £500 or more will ensure that we continue to be more open and accountable to the public.”
