Changes to parking costs in Warwick district
New on-street parking charges are to be introduced in Warwick, Leamington and Kenilworth to encourage motorists to use off-street car parks.
Warwickshire County Council will be implementing new charges following the decision by Warwick District Council to increase charges in its off-street car parks.
From April 1, it will cost 40p to park on-street for up to 30 minutes, £1.20 for up to one hour and £2.40 for up to two hours. This is a small increase of 20p for up to an hour and 40p for two hours.
Paul Galland, Warwickshire County Council’s Strategic Director for Environment and Economy, said: “Our decision is in line with the general approach by local authorities to set on-street parking charges at a higher level than off-street to encourage drivers to make off-street parking their first choice.
“Following the district council’s intention to raise the charges for its car parks we have endeavoured to ensure that we keep the on-street charges affordable and support town centres.”
HM Treasury is introducing new 5p and 10p coins in April which will not be usable in on-street pay and display machines without the county council making very expensive modifications. Payment with any 5p or 10p coins will be gradually phased out during March. The new on-street charges can all be paid using a combination of 20p, 50p, £1 or £2 coins.
