Residents get say on policing and more

Changes to policing in Warwickshire, local grants and more will be on the agenda at the next meeting of the Warwick Community Forum on Thursday 27 January.

The Forum will be held at Aylesford High School, Shelly Avenue, Warwick from 6pm.

Under the heading ‘Your Forum, Your Choice’, residents will also be invited to take part in small discussion groups to influence the development of a new Locality Plan for Warwick, and will hear all about the Forum’s achievements over the past 18 months, which include:

• Three park benches were approved by the Warwick Community Forum in July and have been well received by all users of St. Nicholas Park. The benches have been sited at the eastern end of the park, two on the grassed area behind the elderly residents’ sheltered housing scheme, and one by the riverside, adjacent to the community centre.

• The newly installed Forbes Youth Shelter is now in place opposite the Shakespeare Avenue junction with Hampton Road.  This was the location identified by local young people when Warwickshire Police consulted with the community earlier this year and the project gained funding from a number of sources including the Warwick Community Forum.

• Thanks to financial support from Warwick Community Forum, support of the Saltisford Garden’s over 60s Day Club has been overwhelming with a 12-strong team of volunteers now regularly assisting the group, and members increasing steadily.

The Community Forum meeting is open to all residents living in Warwick town and will be chaired by Warwick District Councillor Moira Ann Grainger.

Community Forums are regular public meetings that allow you to raise issues or local concerns and are a way of keeping you up-to-date with what is happening in YOUR community.

From 6pm, residents will be able to talk to the Police about any individual or confidential issues they may have at an informal surgery, before the Forum meeting starts at 6.30pm.

Local people will receive an update on the future of policing in Warwick with a presentation on the New Policing Model for Warwickshire, which will be followed by a question and answer session.

Residents at the meeting will also be able to influence which local groups and projects receive funding from the Forum Grant Fund. The Community Forum holds a pot of money to support local projects and tackle issues raised as priorities in Warwick.
